Vineyard History
Harmony Amongst the Vines
In the spring of 2000, after two years of working with the soils we began planting our vineyard. As the vines grew we quickly transformed our 20 acres into a blooming meadow of clover, sorrel, vetch, dandelions, asters and goldenrod that grows between the vine rows and under the trellis. Mowing the meadow a few times during the summer lays down a thick mulch of green manure adding natural nutrients to our vineyard. Our soil is fed a diet of organic inputs including seaweed, fish, composted pressings from our winemaking, mulched prunings, horn manure, and biological teas. The complex habitat we have allowed to evolve is teeming with beneficial insects, rabbits, birds, our honeybees and our roaming Bantam chickens. The balanced ecosystem in the vineyard allows beneficial insects to keep troublesome ones in check. Our soils are alive with earthworms and minerals and the natural yeasts from our healthy vineyard allow us to ferment our wines with our own yeasts. We foster organic and Biodynamic based winegrowing bringing evidence that harmony amongst the vines brings grace and clarity to our wines.
